Furniture and Woodworking
Furniture makers make and produce individually designed pieces of furniture such as chairs, tables, chest of drawers and storage or display cabinets. They may also restore antiques or repair damaged furniture.
Assemblers could carry out areas of the above, but will also assemble, and in some cases install items of furniture.
Joiners can also carry out aspects of the above, but could also be required to work on doors, windows and stairs.
Other craft areas can include garden furniture, wood structures (garden play equipment etc), timber merchants.
Your course will include
- Creating a design drawing of the furniture
- Deciding on the quality and type of material needed and the method of construction
- Cutting, shaping and planing the materials (hand and machine)
- Assembling the components
- Adding other fixed or movable parts such as brackets, hinges, handles and locks
You may also be required to apply different types of finishes to the completed items
Qualifications
- City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 or Level 3
Duration
- 6 to 12 months, depending upon experience and training required
