Machine Woodworking
As a wood machinist you would cut and shape timber and timber based products for use in a number of areas.
You will manufacture a range of components, which can include:
- door and window frames
- kitchen units and cabinets
- fencing and pallets.
Your course will include
- planning jobs following detailed technical drawings
- selecting the right type of material for a particular product
- working out the amount of material needed
- cutting and shaping material, setting and using machines, such as saws, planers and routers
- selecting and maintaining tooling
As well as classical machines, you could use computer-controlled equipment (CNC), and you may also be trained to use computer aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) methods as part of your work.
Qualifications
- City & Guilds NVQ Level 2 or Level 3
Duration
- 6 to 12 months, depending upon experience and training required
